iPads in the Social Studies Classroom

In 2011-12 Minneapolis Public Schools began a pilot project to look at the efficacy of using iPads to teach Geography.  We engaged eight teacher innovators.  Four teachers had access to an iPad in their classroom.  The other four had access to one iPad for the teacher.  As a result of the pilot project the Social Studies Department under the leadership of Dr. Lanise Block moved to using digital content and IPads for the 2012-13 school year.

All 9th grade geography teachers will receive an iPad and iPad cart for School Year 2012-13 in order to teach the curriculum.  Both teachers and students will receive ongoing training throughout the year.

Throughout the year the training will follow the SAMR model.
